Drinking and Politics

With the 2016 elections giving the American people no good options. Stephen Brannen and I sat on his porch and polished off a bottle of Larceny bourbon and talked about the state of our Union. Our frustrations with our inept government and the prospect of us not voting (plus a good buzz) led us to ask the question: what we would we do if we were president? Then the question naturally led to a civic inquiry as to if it were even possible for an average everyday American to enter the presidential election. To our surprise the option for us to be write-in candidates was relatively easy. Exploring the internet placed us on the Georgia Secretary of State website and a quick phone call pointed us to the link where we could download the two forms needed to legitimately enter the 2016 race as write-ins.

The two forms were a declaration of intent and an affidavit promising to publish the intention in a local newspaper. So Stephen Brannen and I have decided to just do it and see what happens. We have filled out the declaration of intent and we are looking for the cheapest (free) way to get this into a newspaper to be able to sign our affidavit. Between now and the election we will be working out our political positions and thinking through how we would lead this country. At the very least we see this as a good productive way to protest this election. We will not just complain about the Republican and Democrat vision and plan for America, we will offer our own. And if you find it hard to support either of the candidates and you decide to write-in a candidate that will be counted...we would love your vote!
